Hi all!
I'm going to take you through the wonderful world of button creation. It's easy to do and you can be creative with your designs.
For this tutorial I am going to use this texture for my button:

Keep in mind you don't have to use a texture, but for this tutorial I'm going to.
Now, go to New Image and click. Use these settings to open up a 150pw x 25ph box:

You should have an image that looks like this:

I know, it's tiny, isn't it? This is the beginning of your button. Now you can do any size or shape buttons you want. We're just using this size to teach you how to make them.
Next step: Go to Layers/New Raster Layer and click. A box will pop up asking you if you want to title it. Let's call this layer "texture". Then click OK.
Now, go to Selections/Select All. You will see ants marching around the inside of your image. Next click on your texture and go to Edit/Copy and click back on your blank canvas where the ants are marching. Click Edit/Paste/Paste Into Selection. See, your texture is now inside the box! This is what I have now:

Next step: With the ants still marching around your image, go to Effects/3D Effects/Outer Bevel and use these settings:

Click OK.
With the ants still marching around your image, go to Effects/3D Effects/Buttonize and use these settings:

The color I used was #5c4659.
Now, go to Selections/Select None and, guess what...
You have created a button!! Now save as you like.

Now, that wasn't so painful, was it?! I hope you gave yourself a good pat on the back.
